Around Renzo Piano’s Triton Fountain, citizens and students from Valletta’s art schools and academy collectively swept twelve large black-painted letters spelling Wonder Waters, arranged around the fountain like the hours of a clock. The action echoed the local domestic ritual of washing the doorstep each morning, extending this everyday gesture into a collective act of civic and ecological awareness.
The project connected the circulation of water beneath the city with a visible action performed in one of Valletta’s most symbolic public spaces. The repeated gesture of sweeping brought together ideas of care, contamination, everyday ritual and shared responsibility.
The twelve letters were later presented at Spazju Kreattiv, suspended in the entrance hall. Moving them from the public square to the exhibition space transformed the traces of the collective action into a spatial installation, preserving the memory of the event while inviting reflection on water, urban infrastructure, and collective responsibility.
