Starting with a recording of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, Alessio de Girolamo fragments, resamples, and reorganizes the original material, gradually transforming its familiar musical structure into a dense, abrasive sonic environment. Fragments of Mozart remain embedded within the composition, emerging and disappearing through layers of processed sound.
The work plays with the contrast between the cultural idea of Mozart as a source of harmony and cognitive benefit and the physical transformation of his music through digital processing. The original composition becomes raw material for a new listening experience, suspended between recognition, memory, and noise.
Performed during the artistic residency Etna Rêverie at Primaterra Vineyard, Sicily, in August 2016.
