bio

Alessio de Girolamo (b. 1980) is a sound and visual artist whose research explores the relationships among environmental sound, listening, technology, and compositional processes. His practice develops through sound installations, live performances, computational systems, and mixed-media works.

Environmental sound plays a central role in his work, entering the artistic process as an active agent that can influence the emergence of musical and perceptual structures. Through custom software, feedback systems, field recording, and real-time sound processing, de Girolamo creates situations in which sound evolves through the interaction between designed systems, environmental contingencies, and listening.

His current research develops the concept of Environmental Sonic Agency, investigating forms of composition in which the acoustic environment participates in shaping rhythm, timbre, and musical form. He is pursuing this research in his PhD in Electroacoustic Composition and Sound Arts at the “Umberto Giordano” Conservatory of Foggia.
