Background Noise from the Window

Background Noise From The Window is a sound work developed from the continuous acoustic presence entering through a window in Milan. The window becomes a threshold between an intimate interior space and the unpredictable sonic activity of the city outside.

Environmental sounds are approached as material already in constant transformation: distant traffic, voices, movements, and incidental events form an unstable composition whose structure is determined by the everyday life of the surrounding environment.

The work explores listening as a way to shift attention toward what usually remains in the background. Opening the window creates a passage through which the exterior enters the interior, temporarily dissolving the distinction between private space and urban soundscape.

Background Noise From The Window initiated an ongoing investigation into the window as an acoustic and perceptual threshold, later extended through field recording, movement, and different forms of interaction with environmental sound.
